The Elementals tells the story of 17-year-old Sara, a young girl
who discovers that she is the last surviving Water Elemental. In antiquity, Elementals were spirits
personifying one of the elements, known as the building blocks of nature. In The Elementals these elements include:
Water, Fire, Lightning, Wind, Earth, and the two lost elements.
Endowed with these special powers, Elementals must work to
preserve the balance of nature or suffer the consequences, whirling hurricanes
and great dust storms that ravage the world of Mirmina.
When one Elemental becomes too powerful and seeks to unravel
the balance, he inspires fear in the hearts of the people of Mirmina. Hephaestus,
a Fire Elemental, has built a kingdom in the mountains, and Sara learns that he
is the one who has killed the Water Elementals, including her parents.
For years, Sara wondered if she would have the same power
her parents had, and when she discovers her power, she is taken to Element, a
school where Elementals go to hone their skills. She soon finds, however, that
Element will be her prison. If she leaves, Hephaestus will find her and take
her life, but if she stays, she will be doomed to live in Element forever and
never see the outside world.
Determined to make a new life for herself, Sara leaves
Element with a group of friends. Together, they must battle Sphere Protectors,
great beasts that guard the element spheres, which are the essence of
Elementals’ powers. Sara plans to stop Hephaestus before he gets the element
spheres and uses them to force all other Elementals to their knees. She wishes
to defeat him. Little does she know, there’s a traitor in her midst, who can
undo everything.
